Busy

Hawaii was wonderful and Vegas was a blast.  But now, I have 6,000 pictures to edit.  It took me 2 days to edit my grandaughter's birthday party. Ok, it wasn't two full days, but still it was a lot.  I have so much to do before I go back to work after Thanksgiving.  I can't wait to see my brother in Colorado next week.  He is the best cook and I love spending time with him.  He said he would take me to the quilt store and the knitting store in town.  The knitting store is in a carriage house behind the main house.  Very cool.  I, really, don't need anything new - I have tons of fabric and yarn.  IHowever, it never seems to be the right stuff for my current mood.  I guess, I just love color.

I am in the mood to redecorate my house.  My stuff is so old.  We got a new coffeetable, end tables, huge TV stand from a friend of hubie from work.  This stuff was brand new, I love the look.  So, now I need to redo the room because it is medium wood color and it doesn't go with the white frames and white wood that I have in there.  I want pictures of the grand-children on the wall behind the couch.  I had 3 - 8 x 10 frames of two of the girls, but really need to change to include all four.  I have lots of seashells in there in containers.  I think I can keep those, not sure what to do.  I checked Pottery Barn on-line this morning, some ideas.  I hate spending a bunch of money on stuff.  I do, need to find a couple of new lamps for the room, but again I hate spending a bunch of money.

Maybe, I should just get ready for Christmas and wait until after the beginning of the year.  Decisions, decisions.

Hawaii - Plumeria

I love plumeria.  They are such a simple, fragrant flower. Most of these huge trees were in a parking lot of the quilt store.

Hawaii - Sunrise and Clouds

There were a couple mornings that the sunrise was absolutely beautiful.  I loved looking at the clouds, they were very peaceful.  Constantly changing.  This is the view from my mother in law's driveway.  Wonderful!

Hawaii - Lizards, Geckos and Birds, Oh my!

Tami, my sister, got really excited when she saw a lizard and the bird. 

 

This one was on the eaves of my mother in law's house.  Mom and Tami saw it from their bedroom window and wanted a picture.

Hawaii in July - Flowers - Mom's House

This summer I went to visit my mother in law in Hawaii.  My mom and sister went with me, they had never been to the big island.   We had so much fun. Both of them are quilters, too.  We went to every quilt store on the island, sometimes three times.  My mother in law was so good about it.  I wish I had taken a picture of them in front of each store, darn.

When I was visiting another blog, she had pictures of her garden.  It reminded me that I had never posted this trip.  I took over 1200 photos, developed 500+.  The pictures are in an album waiting to be scrapbooked.  But, isn't my blog like a mini scrapbook of the every day things?  That is what I had hoped for.  So here are the flowers of Hawaii.  All of these are from my mother in law's house.

 

Some kind of lily - mom didn't know what kind.  It had just rained.
 

Orchid - my father in law raised orchids.  They were everywhere.  Mom has been able to keep quite a few blooming.
 

Pineapple.  She threw two pineapple tops in the yard and she got this, plus one more.  It was so cute.

Popcorn orchid.  Dad had a bunch of these growing at one time.  They are very small orchids.
 

Cigar plant.  These flowers are about an inch long.  This plant was covered with the blooms.  They make flower leis out of them.

I get up really early in the morning.  The house is quiet.  I am able to get a lot of creative things done.  When the boys were little, I would study for tests or write papers.  Now, I am creative before I head out to work.  This was the view this morning.  My favorite Starbucks mug and my newest project.

Things

1.    Super happy that we had a great day at school today.  I have a couple of severe behavior problems this year.  Today was great.  Lots of teaching and lots of learning going on in my room.  I might even be able to stay awake until 8 tonight.

2.      I am happy that the meeting this morning with one of my kiddo's social worker went well.  I am so glad that he will be getting the help that he needs and deserves.

3.    Over the moon about all the activity my blog got today - thanks to Julie Herman and her blog.

4.    I realized that I am a magazine addict (again).  I went to Borders to get the new Fons & Porter magazine, so I could make Julie's quilt to match my skirt.  I ended buying two more magazines and a craft book for my grand daughter.  Uggghhh.

5.    Thankful to a former student's grandma that brought me Starbucks this morning to cheer me up.  So very thoughtful of her.  Also, thankful to a co-worker that brought me spaghetti for dinner tonight.  I don't have to cook for the family.  Love it.  I am so lucky to have these special people in my live when I need them the most.

6.      Not sure what is going on with this California weather.  I wish it would make up its' mind.

Dr. Seuss

I found the most adorable material that is Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss theme material.  I bought a yard of each of the fabrics.  Love it.  So  far, I have made a student chair cover for my classroom.  I took a pillowcase and sewed one of the panel cuts on it.  The star helper for the day sits in the chair.  It is so cute - yesterday's helper carries the chair to today's helper.  It looks like a little presentation ceremony.

The best thing that I have made so far is this:

 
It is my Cat in the Hat skirt made with 9" inch squares, 4 tiers.  The blue and red are Moda Marbles.  My kiddos loved it.  I had showed them samples of the fabric.  We talked about the skirt for a couple of weeks.  Then, on Monday I wore it to school.  Woo hoo.  When I walked out to get them, they started jumping up and down and screaming.  The were so excited.  I got lots of thank you's from the kids.  Just because of a skirt.  The best money I have ever spent.  A couple of the girls were walking behind me holding the back of it like it was a wedding train (good thing it is really long)

 

So, if I wear my Cat in the Hat skirt to school - the kids read a different Dr. Seuss book and do activities based on that book.  The first book was, of course, "Cat in the Hat".  They made hats, wordsearch, rhyming hats, math addition page, a little reading rhyme book.  It was such a fun day.

Since, I am off the month of November - we will be doing "the Grinch" in December.  I am hoping to get a quilt done when I am on break.  This much fun and joy, just from fabric.  I can't wait.

We took the girls to Oak Glen to go apple picking on Sunday.  But, first we stopped at the petting zoo.  The girls love the petting zoo and I love Oak Glen.

It has been such a long time since I have been on here.  Life has been busy and crazy.  My class this year is very busy, they are kicking my rear.  Most nights, I am in bed by 7:00.  Way to early, for me to get anything done.  I am thinking about the photography part of my life.  I do enjoy taking pictures, but I need to do something that makes me happy.  Hubie is retiring at the end of the year and moving to Hawaii, in order, to spend time with his mom.  So I will have some free time on my hands, woo hoo.  Well, I need to get ready to spend the day with six year olds.

8 more days until vacation.  Woo hoo!!!
